A charming campsite with character

in the heart of the Luxembourg Ardennes

Sporty activities

omgeving valdor41Camp site Val d’Or borders the village of Enscherange, the perfect starting point for a voyage into the natural splendor of the Eislek-region! Several (child-friendly) trekking, hiking and mountain biking routes depart straight from the camp site’s entrance. The local flora is characterized by a cadence of valleys, forests and breathtaking vista’s. There is much wildlife to be spotted, especially if you are to silently hike the forests at dusk or dawn. A simple sunrise journey might acquaint you with the many hares, boars, deers, raccoons, badgers, squirrels and foxes.

Hiking and trekking

Straight from Val d’Or’s entrance depart several hiking routes, varying greatly in length and traverse of height. Every season in the Eislek region is an invitation for a hike as the seasons great variety is reflected in the landscape. Our front desk offers an assortment of hiking maps and is happy to provide you with additional information before you set off. Many routes are easily short-cut via local pathways or by taking the (practically free) train back to the nearby Wilwerwiltz station, located 1,7 kilometers away from Val d’Or.

Canoeing

The river Sure is an excellent place for canoeing during sunny days. The nearest canoe rental is Ronn’s Bikes & Kayaks at Wallendorf Pont. You can rent kayaks and one- or two person canoes for a downriver journey of approximately fourteen kilometers. It is mandatory to make reservations ahead of time during high season, on which you may find more information and contact with Ronn’s Bikes & Kayaks at http://kanuverleihaufdersauer.de/

For our younger guests there are two hiking routes available that combine fun, learning and only an hour’s hiking. These are the Sound-walkway in Hoscheid in Hoscheid and the ‘Mam Robi duerch de Bësch’ in Hosingen. Both routes are most child-friendly, especially the Mam Robi for younger children. Be advised that the Sound-walkway has some traverse in height, making it less suitable for very young children. Please see more information (in Dutch) at (https://www.visitluxembourg.com/nl/plaatz/walking/rondwandelroute-klangwee-hoscheid). For a lovely afternoon’s outing, how about combining your hike with a visit to the Aqua Nat’Our swimming pool in Hosingen, only three kilometers away?

Biking

Several biking and mountain biking routes depart directly from the camp site’s entrance. We do not offer bike rentals but are happy to advise you on local bike rental companies. The nearest bike rental is located in Wiltz, ten kilometers away from Val d’Or. Several mountain biking and cycling routes also depart from this location, with variation in length and height traverse to suit every biker. The rental location also offers e-bikes and children’s seats. Making rental reservations prior to your biking trip is advised during the high season.

Motor biking

Riding a motor bike is another excellent way to discover Luxembourg’s beauty. Our roads are reknown for their well maintained and clean appearance, making a motor biking trip an unrivalled pleasure. Val d’Or is located along the Ardennes-Eiffel motor route, leading from the Belgian Ardennes to the German Eiffel. Val d’Or would be happy to accommodate you for a breather along the way or a single night’s stay.

Swimming

At a mere ten kilometers from Val d’Or lies the indoor swimming pool and spa center Aqua Nat’Our in Hosingen. During the summer they often also open the smaller outdoor pool. The center is known for its tasteful setting and ease of supervision for parents and guardians. For opening hours and entrance fees, please see http://www.aquanatour.lu

Another outdoor pool is located at camp site Kaul in Wiltz, with a separate entrance fee for pool guests. Or you may wish to visit the public recreational lake at the village of Weiswampach. This manmade lake includes a beach area and lies somewhat West of the village center, at the Weilwerdangerstroos. A drive to here takes you about 25 minutes.

The closest natural lake suitable for swimming is located at Esch-sur-Sure, south of Val d’Or. Swimming is allowed at several places along the lakeside and can be reached within 30 minutes of driving. To reach this place, navigate your route to the villages of Liefrange or Lultzhausen.

Fishing

Fishing is not allowed at Val d’Or. You can angle away at the nearby fishing lake at camp site Reilerweier, where you can catch trout and other fish. There is no license required and rods are available for hire. See https://reilerweier.lu/ for more information. At camp site Du Nord you are allowed to fish directly in the river Sure, but a license is required and can be purchase at the camp site.
